About Egerton University Ajira Digital Club (EU-ADC)

Welcome to Egerton University Ajira Digital Club (EU-ADC).  This is one of the clubs registered with the Dean of Students office meaning it is legit.  It is one of the only clubs that teach you how to be an entrepreneur as well as important soft skills that you need to know when dealing with clients and other professionals in the workplace.

 Not only do you learn new skills in addition to what you already know but you get to test your entrepreneurial skills with the guidance of a mentor who walks with you until you learn how to swim.

 It is at this club where we demystify for you what online work is all about, help you understand some of the easy avenues you can take to earn money through the Internet and help you develop wings in the digital economy.  There are many online jobs through various platforms that you can imagine.

At the University, one of the constant messages we hear is being advised to be innovative.  At EU-ADC, one of the objectives is to inculcate innovation and entrepreneurship as a source of income.  Not only do we help our members with ideas of opportunities they can take advantage of, but we also work together in discovering new ways of how we can easily make and continue making money.

How do I make money through online work?

 t is easy to earn money through online work. There are many ways to do that. To begin with, you need some skill and to know that there are many legitimate and illegitimate sources online that all claim to help you make money.

At EU-ADC, we show you the correct path to follow, teach you how to fish and hold your hand until you are able to catch your first fish.

To do this, ensure you;

What skills are taught?

Egerton University Ajira Digital Club (EU-ADC) being a club associated with the national Ajira Digital program, is guided by a curriculum that include several knowledge areas.  These skills are meant to expose you to the many opportunities that are in the online space. In brief, the knowledge areas that are taught include the following:

 

a)      Data Entry/Management

Training in data entry/management imparts skills and insights on data entry and Management jobs which include analysis processing, data mining, encoding, and conversion.

b)      Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is a person who provides support services to other businesses from a remote location.  Such work include E-mail and Social Media management, customer service, event management, financial management, managing appointments/errands

c)      Transcription

Learn how to be a transcriber and do captioning jobs that range from writing captions for YouTube videos to working on closed captions for a movie or a big brand’s marketing videos.  There are several other opportunities that also include providing audio and video recordings conversion into text, for example, business transcription among others

d)      Digital Marketing and Commerce

Learn how to promote and sell products and services by leveraging on online marketing tactics such as social media, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Email marketing, Analytics, etc

e)      Writing and Translation

Learn about online writing and translation jobs that include articles and news, editing and proofreading, web content, industry-specific expertise, books, research, blogs, copywriting, and industry-specific work.

The above knowledge areas are classified as some of the common and major areas that the introductory level entails. You cannot study all of them together. You pick what interests you and pursue the length and breadth of the opportunities therein.

Later you will get the opportunity to learn about other platforms and opportunities to gain more skills designed to increase your abilities and make you more competent at what you do to earn more income.  As you will learn, you bid for jobs online. That means, you not only need to have the skills required to do the job you bid for, but you also need to prove to the one offering the job that you are more competent than the rest. This is what you get trained on.

Requirements to be a member of EU-ADC

To become a member of Egerton University Ajira Digital Club (EU_ADC), you need to meet the following criteria;

1. Have a working E-mail Address

2. Have access to a computer

3. A reliable internet access

4. Work space – A place you can be working from whenever you get work.

5. Be computer literate at a basic level

• Be able to operate an E-Mail account
• Create, type, save and retrieve a word document
• Be able to competently use Internet search engine
• Knowledge on existing electronic modes of payment (MPESA, PayPal, etc)

How does Ajira relate to program/course l am pursuing?

 I have heard many students ask this question so many times.  Between the chicken and the egg which came first?  Irrespective of the program, you are studying, the future works online.

Hypothetically speaking, a person who is studying environmental science does a lot of research online as part of academic requirement.  Aimed with content writing skills such a student will have skills to publish own or hired content in his/her domain.  This can be well-researched content related to environmental science he/she can be a blogger on a niche in the specific domain supporting other professionals in the specific field.

 So is the case with students pursuing computer science.  There are very many online jobs that require people who are proficient in logo design among other simple graphics related work, website development, programming jobs in various languages, social media management, search engine optimization, etc, etc.

 Every field has a slot in the online space to learn this and more the first step is to acquire the skill that will allow you to swim in the internet space.

How is the training conducted?

 Upon joining the club and enrolling for your preferred course, the following happens;

1)  You will get a MANDATORY 2-day virtual training session that is meant to build a solid foundation on the knowledge area you are studying.

2)   You will be enrolled to a month-long mentorship program with mentors who will guide you and offer additional training (hand-holding process) until you are able to begin earning from your work.

3)      Upon successful completion you will be awarded a certificate

4)      You will henceforth join the mentor’s club
